Mike and Jeanine Gooch (field missionaries in South Africa)
Their History:
After being best friends for nearly a
decade, they finally married in 2010. In the years since, they have realized
why the Lord had brought them together in marriage after so much time. He had
plans for them. In July of 2010, they served a short-term mission trip to South
Africa. Upon their return to the States, they found their daily routines to
become less and less satisfying, maybe because they had seen Christ in a
different light and longed to be with Him in that place. As they settled back
in to their life here, God spoke to them in a number of ways, calling them to
serve Him: The church they attend presented a series of messages regarding
serving the Least of These; they randomly picked books to read in The Word and
frequently landed on verses of service; they were led specifically to Matthew
25:40 in regards to serving the Least of These; Romans 12 and learning their
role in the body of Christ. God gave them confirmation when they watched the
video of their wedding ceremony. At one point of the service, their family and
friend prayed over them. Their son in law said a blessing guided by the Lord.
He said they were called to go out into the world. The pastor ended the
services stating their story of service to God is now beginning.
Their Role in South Africa:
God has given them experiences that have developed
their skills and talents needed to serve Him in South Africa. Jeanine is
skilled in administration and organization. She has held multiple careers that
have expanded her abilities that will significantly benefit organizations and
ministries in South Africa. Jeanine also has a unique talent with people. She
is genuine in her conversations and interactions with others. Jeanine has an
ability to bring the best out of people, encouraging them to participate and to
serve. Her background in raising children to God-fearing leaders and
missionaries and her experience teaching countless kids in children's
ministries gives Jeanine an amazing ability to coach and teach children. Mike has
a background in computers and technology that brings benefits and aids the
development of the organizations in a world driven by technology. Mike's
professional careers have expanded his abilities in teaching adults and also a
number of years of ministry experience teaching children. God has also blessed
him with a past of numerous construction projects, giving him skills to assist
in building and repairs.
God is using them how He needs them. As a
couple with unique pasts that grow together more and more each day, focused and
moving towards Him, their strength continues to flourish. God has given them a vision of service
in Africa. Beyond the aid and teaching to the children and people there, He
wants the world to know about His people. As Americans that understand the
culture of the US, they assist organizations in developing an awareness of the
poverty and needs in Africa to people in America and other countries. They will
also work to bring African ministries together. As missionaries from the US,
they will be the strangers in a foreign land giving them the opportunity to be
the unique common bond between several organizations, working to bring them
together and ever expanding their network.
